Good morning fantabulous Singing Scot followers! Homecoming week is almost here, and it'll be a big one this year! The Choir has a lot of things planned to celebrate!
Homecoming Choir
Every year during homecoming, the MC Alumni who were part of the Concert Choir in their college days are invited back to sing with us the Saturday of Homecoming weekend. We'll be rehearsing on Friday, October 21st with these alumni as well as our guest director, Dr. Jennifer Olander Anderson, '05, for our concert October 22nd.
Dr. Anderson currently works as the Assistant Director of Music at First United Methodist Church Maryville. She directs the adults and youth Handbell choirs as well as the beginner children's choir. She accompanies the Morning Glory Chorus and plays the piano during the early services every week. Dr. Anderson has worked as a professor of music in Memphis, as an Assistant Professor of Music at LeMoyne-Owen College, where she taught piano, music theory, and conducted the concert choir, and as an adjunct professor at the University of Memphis (where she finished her doctorate in collaborative piano performance with a minor in music theory). She got her Masters from the University of Tennessee Knoxville after she graduated from Maryville College in 2005.
In her time at Maryville College, Dr. Anderson was a part of the Concert Choir and Community Choir. She played oboe for the Concert Band and the Community Band as well. Dr. Anderson was one of the founding members of the Choral Small Ensemble Off Kilter, which has been going strong for 20 years.
The Homecoming Choir will perform Saturday, October 22nd at 10:30am in the Ronald and Linda Nutt Theater at the Clayton Center for the Arts.
Founder's Day Performance
Our Choral Small Ensembles, Off Kilter, Lads, and Lassies, will be performing at the Founder's Day Dinner, a special celebration of those who donate funds to the college as a, "Thank you," for all they do for us students.
This year, alumni of Off Kilter, Lads, and Lassies will be joining the current members for this performance to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of Off Kilter. We will be rehearsing on Friday in preparation for this performance. Sadly, it is not open to the public, but there will hopefully be another chance for those of you who would like to see these singers perform this weekend.
We hope to see you at the Homecoming Choir Concert Saturday morning!
